Fall is one of the best seasons in the Los Angeles area for new planting.

Fall has finally arrived in Southern California. Although we still get a heat wave or two in October, the temperature, generally, begins to cool down. It’s time to do some planting in the garden. Fall is one of, if not the best season to plant in Southern California. Our mild winters allow many plants to continue to grow and strengthen through winter and spring, so they have a nice foothold to take the summer heat. Fall, with it’s cool but not too frosty weather is perfect for planting.

Fall is also a great time to clean the landscape. That is, trim and shape plants and remove weeds. The cooler temperature allows plants to better recover from trimming cuts, unlike the summer heat, which requires plants to spend most of their carbohydrate energy in water transpiration.
